After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Khalil Mack pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Xavier Legette at pick No. 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the 37th pick. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Junior Colson in No. 68, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Johnny Wilson at the 69th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khyree Jackson in pick 103 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
