The Logan Jones pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 61 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The Lachey pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
The Lawson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and running back still on the board. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In the end it comes back to Mason Graham, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
Mason Graham at No. 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Jalon Walker in pick 38, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sonny Styles in the 61st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dylan Fairchild slipping to slot 71 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Jay Higgins at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Colston Loveland at Round 3, Pick 22 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; T.J. Sanders at Round 3, Pick 23 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Deontae Lawson at linebacker with quarterback and running back open.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Ozzy Trapilo. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Rylie Mills at slot 144 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Logan Brown at No. 164 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Jaishawn Barham in pick 185; it is a wash and a sensible one. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They robbed the room for Nic Anderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Dont'e Thornton Jr. was still sitting there in the 218th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hunter Wohler at the 220th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Logan Jones. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Luke Lachey in the 256th pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
