The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Every board in the league had Johnson lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Amarius Mims at pick No. 34 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 5 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Patrick Paul at par in No. 68, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
