After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Foster proves the room right and everyone else wrong. On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at slot 34, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at pick 62 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Javon Foster a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Elijah Jones at Round 4, Pick 23. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
