After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Reaching for Foster left real value on the table behind him.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Brian Thomas Jr. at par in the 23rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Xavier Legette in pick 34 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Worthy is a better player than No. 68 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Foster at slot 103 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Elijah Jones at Round 4, Pick 33 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
