The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Dominick Puni, the No. 103 name on the board, in slot 139. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Jahmyr Gibbs leading the way. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a building block for the line at fair value.
In pick No. 29 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 34th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Jermaine Burton at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in No. 103: Bucky Irving for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Junior Colson was still sitting there in pick 105, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Dominick Puni all the way to slot 139, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cam Hart at the 149th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Joe Milton III at the 182nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
LaDarius Henderson in pick 184 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Erick All at Round 7, Pick 12 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
