Thirty-one other rooms let Omarion Hampton slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick No. 105. Highway robbery.
Lachey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jalon Walker at Round 3, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Xavier Watts all the way to pick 77, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at slot 105. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Luke Lachey at pick No. 145 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jonah Monheim in the 219th pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Hayden Conner was the payoff at the 222nd overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Kaden Prather at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
