The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Worthy.
The Orhorhoro pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
If Drake Maye and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on Adonai Mitchell in pick No. 34, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Ruke Orhorhoro at pick 60 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Xavier Worthy is a better player than the 68th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jarrian Jones in Round 5, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
