The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in slot 68, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Elijah Jones at pick No. 103 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Javon Foster at the 116th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
