Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Lassiter. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The Patriots indulged a want in Jackson while a need in interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots stayed open. They will need Worthy to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
In the 11th pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Xavier Worthy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kamari Lassiter at slot 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
A curious use of pick No. 104. Interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Khyree Jackson did not.
Javon Foster at pick 136 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
