The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Jones value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
If Caleb Williams and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell in the 34th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Legette at pick No. 48 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Javon Foster in No. 108, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Elijah Jones in pick 112 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Johnny Wilson is a better player than slot 137 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Christian Jones come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 12. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
