After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They banked enough surplus on Sainristil to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Guyton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Troy Franklin went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Kamren Kinchens in the 68th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in slot 103, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A minor itch, scratched.
Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 137 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Jared Wiley at pick 180 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kendall Milton in No. 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Caedan Wallace still on the board at pick No. 231. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
