The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Tyler Booker, the No. 37 name on the board, sitting there at pick 68 like a gift left on the doorstep. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and pick No. 38 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 68 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in the 69th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor itch, scratched.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 83 with a little surplus value in Darien Porter. A minor need, but a need all the same.
