The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Torrence at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a blindside protector at fair value.
In pick 23 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
In No. 31 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ladd McConkey at the 34th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 66 with a little surplus value in Javon Bullard. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 68th overall pick, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 3, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 11 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 231st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
