The rest of the league will want that one back. Brashard Smith tumbling to the Patriots in No. 217 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Trapilo has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in the 38th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ozzy Trapilo a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Jalen Royals, who had no business lasting to the 77th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Cam Skattebo in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Andrew Mukuba at pick 144 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A running back of that caliber at No. 217 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Dont'e Thornton Jr. still on the board at slot 220. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach No. 238 and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
