The Barryn Sorrell pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 33 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Emery Jones Jr. in pick No. 36. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Jonah Savaiinaea, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Dylan Fairchild at pick 93 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Evan Stewart at slot 103, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Davison Igbinosun was still sitting there in the 139th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Kyren Lacy went about where he belonged in slot 217. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Jason Henderson in pick 220, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A real head-scratcher, Barryn Sorrell in the 235th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
