Maye is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a C-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 7
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 25
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Amarius Mims in pick 34. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 32
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 7 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia at the 68th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 115
The board had cheaper options than Elijah Jones at pick No. 103, and it noticed. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 137
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in No. 137, and that is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
