The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Worthy at that price is a win they earned.
If Suamataia pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Xavier Legette in No. 35 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Kingsley Suamataia, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Xavier Worthy slid further than he should have, and pick No. 68 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylin Simpson in the 137th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
