The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Getting Dixon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting Gore Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in No. 68, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaheim Bell at the 137th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Julian Pearl at pick 180 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 193 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Johnny Dixon in slot 231 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
