The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jake Majors, the No. 92 name on the board, in pick 148.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Emeka Egbuka for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyler Warren at pick 69 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at slot 76 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Darien Porter in the 77th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Andrew Mukuba at the 104th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Skattebo in Round 5, Pick 6 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
