After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Drake Maye in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Adonai Mitchell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 63rd overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Ruke Orhorhoro went about where he belonged in pick No. 68. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Elijah Jones in No. 103 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
A premium they did not need to pay, Javon Foster a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Tyrone Tracy Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
