The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Demetrius Knight Jr., the No. 61 name on the board, in No. 117. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The cost of the Pierce reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Warren in slot 38 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Hollin Pierce in the 69th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Omarion Hampton in Round 3, Pick 17 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Andrew Mukuba in pick No. 104 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a linebacker like Demetrius Knight Jr. reach No. 117 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cobee Bryant well ahead of where he belonged. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
