They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They banked enough surplus on Baker to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Jones has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Legette in pick No. 34 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kiran Amegadjie at No. 68 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Javon Baker in pick 103 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jarrian Jones in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Chau Smith-Wade in Round 6, Pick 5 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tahj Washington in the 193rd overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trente Jones in slot 231 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
