The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Sai'vion Jones, the No. 150 name on the board, in pick No. 240. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Ersery lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
A reach for Aireontae Ersery in slot 38; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in No. 69, with TreVeyon Henderson worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Alfred Collins still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylin Noel in pick No. 105. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Jeffrey Bassa come to them and pounced at the 145th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Taking Mitchell Evans in Round 7, Pick 3 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Miles Frazier at par in pick 222, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Sai'vion Jones in the 240th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
