After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They will need Wiley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid a round early for Xavier Worthy in No. 34, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malachi Corley in pick No. 68 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dominick Puni at the 103rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jarrian Jones at the Round 5 slot is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Jared Wiley at the 182nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sheridan Jones at slot 224 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jha'Quan Jackson in Round 7, Pick 12 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
