Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Flournoy. The cost of the Bell reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
In pick 31 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Cole Bishop in Round 4, Pick 3, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaheim Bell in No. 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jaylin Simpson in the 180th overall pick, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
A reach for Kimani Vidal in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ryan Flournoy at pick No. 231 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
