The Patriots lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Monheim reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
Tre Harris at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quinshon Judkins at the 69th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach on Ozzy Trapilo in No. 77; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Donovan Jackson at pick 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Jonah Monheim at the 144th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
