The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Stone Handy at the 219th pick regardless, 143 picks early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The Ransom pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kenneth Grant at the 38th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Donovan Jackson in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
A safety of that caliber at pick 145 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Stone Handy at slot 219 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trey Zuhn III in No. 222 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Trevor Etienne higher than the Round 7 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
