The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Braswell steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Williams at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Brian Thomas Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Chris Braswell at the 68th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Khyree Jackson in pick 103. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Theo Johnson was the payoff at No. 137. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Walter Rouse come to them and pounced at slot 180. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tahj Washington in the 193rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
