The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named quarterback, a need the Patriots walked right past. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every board in the league had Vinson lower, and that gap is the story. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Aireontae Ersery enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 6. A need, and now a little less of one.
Isaiah Bond at pick 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Andrew Mukuba at slot 77 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Cam Skattebo in No. 106, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Aeneas Peebles in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Carson Vinson in pick No. 217; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Robert Longerbeam in the 220th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 238, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
