They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Schrader. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Duke reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Adonai Mitchell in No. 34, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 17. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Patrick Paul in pick No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for DJ James here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Sataoa Laumea at pick 116 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
James Williams slipping to slot 136 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in the 140th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cody Schrader in slot 182 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keaton Bills. A need, and now a little less of one.
Khalid Duke in pick 255 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
