The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: T.J. Sanders, the 217th pick, roughly 175 picks past where he belonged.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The veteran additions, Kolton Miller chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value.
Ashton Jeanty in the 38th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Wyatt Milum still on the board at pick 68. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalon Walker at Round 3, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They will replay Tre Harris at No. 86 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the 104th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Walter Nolen in slot 143 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Jack Bech at pick 162 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 178 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Trey Amos at Round 6, Pick 37 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Circle this one: T.J. Sanders at the 217th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quinshon Judkins at slot 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a wide receiver like Xavier Restrepo reach the 238th pick and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
