The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Cam Ward, the No. 7 name on the board, sitting there at Round 6, Pick 10 like a gift left on the doorstep. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Hit on Abdul Carter and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
