New England Patriots

The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Fairchild: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Dylan Fairchild slide 183 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 1
A tidy little value on Travis Hunter in the 4th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 13
They barely believed it either: Wyatt Milum still on the board at the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Steal is underselling it; Ashton Jeanty at slot 52 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 26
They robbed the room for Tre Harris here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 23
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kenneth Grant in pick No. 104, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.6 · Pick 143 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 38
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in No. 143, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Josaiah Stewart · DE-EDGE · rank 41
Circle this one: Josaiah Stewart at pick 217 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 55
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 22 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
