The Patriots ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Brade at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Caelen Carson in the 68th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They read the board right and Sedrick Van Pran was the payoff at slot 103. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jamari Thrash in No. 115 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Beau Brade in pick 139 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nathan Thomas in pick No. 182. The roster fit checks out.
JD Bertrand at pick 196 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jalen Berger in the 224th overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
J.J. Weaver in slot 232 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
