The real work happened on the phones. The Patriots fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Laumea at that price is a win they earned. Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Terrion Arnold at Round 2, Pick 2 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nice patience on Jordan Morgan, who had no business lasting to the 43rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Sataoa Laumea reach pick No. 136 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Luke McCaffrey in the 182nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in slot 229, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
