The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Roger Rosengarten fell into the 229th overall pick.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Troy Franklin at the Round 2 slot is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Mason McCormick went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
DJ James in Round 4, Pick 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Nice patience on Isaiah Adams, who had no business lasting to No. 136. A need, and now a little less of one.
Justin Rogers slipping to the 182nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Roger Rosengarten was still sitting there in slot 229, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The roster fit checks out.
