The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The McGlothern value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at Round 1, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Adonai Mitchell in pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Devontez Walker in the 68th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brenden Rice at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at No. 136, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Marist Liufau in pick No. 179, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at slot 231 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
