The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Landing Holker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jordan Morgan at slot 58 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Ja'Lynn Polk at par in No. 66, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 3, Pick 11, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Dominick Puni went about where he belonged in the 90th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Donovan Edwards in the 104th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Payton Wilson at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tyler Batty at pick No. 180 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Dallin Holker in No. 223, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
