The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Roman Wilson fell into No. 136.
Washington has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach for J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 2; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Kingsley Suamataia come to them and pounced at slot 68. It fills a real need, too.
Malik Washington at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 136 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Braelon Allen in the 182nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Williams at pick No. 229 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
