The trade table was where it all came apart. The Patriots shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Everything downstream of Bo Nix depends on Bo Nix, and the building knows it. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Nix proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The Hadden value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get their quarterback of the future, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
In the 25th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Payton Wilson at No. 34 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 54 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Javon Bullard at slot 68 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 4, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Ainias Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamal Hadden at the Round 6 slot is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They jumped the gun on Erick All, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
