You build a draft on nights like this. Jack Kiser had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Reaching for Yarns left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Will Campbell at pick No. 4, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Colston Loveland slipping to pick 38 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Tre Harris at the 69th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Maxwell Hairston at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Donovan Jackson all the way to No. 105, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Darius Alexander slid further than he should have, and the 145th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Marcus Yarns at Round 7, Pick 1, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Seth McLaughlin at slot 222 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jack Kiser at the 240th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
