They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Ford pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
That Mitchell pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
They let Brian Thomas Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 36. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 46. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 32 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cam Hart is a better player than slot 108 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They paid sticker price for Johnny Dixon in the 183rd pick, and that is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Kendall Milton in pick 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
