The rest of the league will want that one back. Damien Martinez tumbling to the Patriots in the Round 7 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Every board in the league had Trapilo lower, and that gap is the story. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Warren at No. 38 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Marcus Mbow is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to pick No. 74, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Ozzy Trapilo enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 77. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Jake Majors. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Malachi Moore still on the board at pick 144. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Damien Martinez at the 220th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 238 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
