You could see the war room lean forward. Mike Sainristil at No. 103 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They will need Ford to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Bo Nix in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cade Stover at slot 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Mike Sainristil at pick 103 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jacob Cowing in the 137th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylan Ford well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They liked Julian Pearl enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 193. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Whittington in the 231st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
