They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
The Milton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Reaching for All left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached a country mile for J.J. McCarthy at Round 1, Pick 11, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
In pick 23 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Morgan in the 34th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at slot 68 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 137 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Erick All at No. 180 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Myles Cole in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kendall Milton in the 231st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
