The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 45 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 61st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Malachi Corley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Jason Marshall Jr. in the 103rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in No. 181, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rasheen Ali. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
