New England Patriots

Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the Patriots steal Harden and grade out a A-.

Somebody in pick 229 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Myles Harden, the No. 184 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, with Olumuyiwa Fashanu leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
Keon Coleman in No. 34 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 38
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick 68 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 98
Malik Washington at pick No. 104 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
Johnny Wilson is a better player than the 136th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 199
A reach for Joe Milton III in slot 182; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Myles Harden · CB · rank 184
Circle this one: Myles Harden at Round 7, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
