The Patriots lost the trade table, and the C+ tells the story.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent pick 238 on Drew Kendall, a name the board had a full 56 spots lower. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Mondon Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and quarterback still on the board. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stackhouse.

If Tetairoa McMillan and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 10
In pick 19 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 38
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. It fills a real need, too.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Cameron Williams · OT · rank 67
Cameron Williams in slot 53 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 59
They let Demetrius Knight Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 69. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Elijah Arroyo · TE · rank 73
Elijah Arroyo in Round 3, Pick 13 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
R4.4 · Pick 106 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 99
They did well to land Cam Skattebo in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.19 · Pick 121 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 110
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 121 on Smael Mondon Jr. with edge rusher and quarterback unsolved.
R5.6 · Pick 144 · Brashard Smith · RB · rank 134
Brashard Smith in pick 144 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Caleb Ransaw · S · rank 206
Value with a capital V on Caleb Ransaw in pick No. 217, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Nazir Stackhouse · DL · rank 207
Nazir Stackhouse at slot 220 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Drew Kendall · C · rank 294
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drew Kendall well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
