The Patriots lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Skattebo steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Aireontae Ersery in No. 38 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Elijah Arroyo in pick 69, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Carson Schwesinger at slot 77 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in the 114th overall pick: Cam Skattebo for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Aeneas Peebles at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 193, where Jaylen Reed graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Alijah Huzzie at Round 7, Pick 1 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Torricelli Simpkins III at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
